  • Hey guys, just thought I would make this to keep you guys informed of some of the the changes I am going to/have made. In order (I think):

    1) Updated the event infobox to accommodate Me, Grimlock, King

    2) Created documentation page for and categorized the evolve character infobox

    3) Added "Epic Rare" to available options when using the form to edit card pages

Some things I am thinking of doing (listed in no particular order):

    1) Cleaning up template code if possible

    2) Adjusting auto-categorization for card pages to conform to current categories

    3) Creating a better form for editing pages that use the evolve character infobox

      Loading editor
    • Okay, so you may or may not have noticed but I recently created a card list for evolve characters. At the moment it doesn't have much information on it. This is a result of a lack of property pages corresponding to the new properties. Properly identifying the new properties will be my area of focus for a bit.

        Loading editor
    • So, I have started making some changes. I am currently talking with DinoKev about properties and he gave me information on the edit forms. As such, I have begun (but not finished) to edit the evo edit form. You can take a look if you guys want. That being said, I think I have also found the error that causes the images to not auto-size correctly. I have fixed that so from now on there is no need to crop images to 300 px. Although, I have not fixed previous pages yet.

    • WHOO-HOO!  Good job on adding Epic Rare to the drop-down menu buddy.  I have another similar request; can you add Healing Cluster, Armor Piercing, and Heroic Charge to the In-Battle and Pre-Battle drop-down menus for the weapon template?  I've already added them to the switches section so that they are automatically added to the appropriate categories (as evident by Inferno (2) Weapon.)

Also, is there documentation on how to edit the drop-down menus?  If so I can attempt to make the changes myself.

        Loading editor
    • 1) I have finished editing the evolve character edit form. However, I may still play aroind with it for better alignment and stuff.

      2) There is no documentation about drop-downs but I can do it no problem now.

      a) With the current system, there is only abilities. The wiki currently does not differentiate between in-battle and pre-battle. This is something I have been wanting to change but there are a few problems to work out first. Perhaps I'll bring those up later.

      b) What are the official names of the abilities? In other words, how do the appear on the cards? I know that according to the blog post, some of them are numbered like Herioc Charge I. Perhaps if you could link to cards that have the new abilties so I can see all three for myself?

      EDIT:

I am still planing on working on properties and auto-categorizing. When talking with DinoKev, we noticed a few redundant lines of code I may remove.

        Loading editor
    • I know that they appear on the cards as I listed them.  I did create categories for them if you want to see cards with the abilities.

Heroic Charge  Healing Cluster  Armor Piercing

    • I've finally used the new template for the evolution cards and I must say that I'm a fan.  The layout is much more user friendly compared to the gigantic list that is was before.  Plus you can now see the description in its entirety, which is nice.  The only thing is that there's not any Max Level fields like before.  Can they be added to the template or removed from the published page?  Or even automatically populated based off of the rarity level selected which is how it's done with the regular cards?  I can provide the levels for Super Rare and Ultra Rare and I believe those are the only two rarities when it comes to Evolution cards.

      SR 1 = 30, SR 2 = 40, SR 3 = 50, SR 4 = 65

      UR 1 = 30, UR 2 = 40, UR 3 = 50, UR 4 = 80

        Loading editor
    • 1) As a side note, I noticed that updating the template does not update the categories for existing pages. Such pages must be re-published in order for new auto-categorizing to take effect. That is why Heroic Charge and Armor Piercing have so few members at the moment.

      2) I am glad you like the new edit form.

      a) What do you mean by "removed from the published page"?

      b) Yes, I have actually been meaning to do that. As you noticed, the max level is automatic for regular characters. I plan on doing that for evolve characters as well.

        Loading editor
    • 1) Okay, I took care of the max level thing. Check next time you create a new evolve character page and let me know if it works correctly.

      2) I am going to create a test evolve character page. I need it to verify some changes. I suggest leaving it around for testing future changes.

    • I have finished my addition on the Episode Card checkbox. Next time you use the evolve form check it out and tell me if we want to use it for regular characters and weapons as well.

A side note is that the field can be assigned in the text editor but in order for the categories to be added it must be updated using the form. The thing is that a boolean value in wiki code is actually just like any other variable. Thus, without a really long switch statement, I can only check for one particular string. I have choosen the string used by the checkbox. The reason is that the checkbox has code that recognizes other reasonable inputs for a boolean value and sets itself accordingly. Thus, as soon as the form is used, the set value is changed to the one used by the checkbox.

      Examples:

      Recognized by checkbox:

      yes, Yes, True, true

      no, No, False, false

      Used by checkbox:

      Yes

      No

When a recognized value is present, the checkbox updates to match that status. When saved, it then changes to value to the corresponding used value.

For instance, if you did "|episode card = true", then nothing would happen the first time around. But, the next time the page is edited with the form, the check box would recognize the value "true" and automatically check itself. By publishing the changes, the code would then be changed by the form to "|episode card=Yes". This will then correctly auto-categorize the page.

Similarly, if you did "|epsidoe card = false", the checkbox would uncheck itself and the form would update the code to "|episode card=No".

    • I have added the new abilities to "in-battle". Could someone please verify whether or not these abilities are only "in-battle"? If not, I will need to add them to "pre-battle" as well.

      EDIT:

An additional change I have made is adjusting the alignment of the quote for evolve cards. Also, I officially created the page for Category:Evolve Cards. This page unofficially existed since the category was created; I just made it official by explicitly making the page.

    • Hey guys. I think the following covers everything important, but no promises. If I forgot something, I will post it when I remember.

      Progress Summary

Since the last update, I have mostly worked on a template for battlegrounds. With the addition of 2 campaigns (6 battlegrounds), I thought it might be a good idea to have one to ensure format uniformity and to make additions easier (both now and in the future).

      Has been Done

I have developed two versions. The first applies to most cases in that it is fixed at 5 missions per battleground. This one has been fully developed including a form and template documentation. Feel free to thoroughly check it out and play around with filling it out. I have checked this version for robustness.

The second version is an attempt to make the template more flexible. The number of missions is variable. Already, this is of use for the introductory campaigns since they only contain 3 missions. All templates are fully developed for this version. I would not advise any serious testing of this version at the moment as I am still working on it. It is based on the first version so I expect it to be of equivalent robustness when complete.

    • Looks like you're not done (again.)  They just introduced the new rarity level 7, Legendary.  They also replaced Class with Ability and added Triple Attack according to Megatron (9).

        Loading editor
    • Yeah. I'll have to take a look a bit later. I decided to take this episode easy. The way I figure it, everyone else is going to be playing like crazy trying to get the new stuff. Since I usually play hard just to get the lower rewards, I am not even going to try this time around. No worries though, it will get done. Of course, it would help if Mobage could make up its mind.

        Loading editor
    • Also, after taking a look at the R7 card, it appears that there may still be class. It appears that that the ability has just been displayed instead. If someone got the R7 and could confirm, that would be great.

        Loading editor
    • Okay, I have made preliminary changes to the character form and template to accommodate R7. However, these changes may not be final depending on what we want to do. There are several questions we need to answer. I list them below as well as my thoughts. Please let me know what you guys think.

      1) Do R7 cards still have a class?

I think so; but if someone who has one could confirm, that would be best. I would guess that it matches class A of the corresponding weapon card as has been the case to this point as far as I know.

      2) Does the ability vary or is it always Triple-Attack?

This is something that will need to be determined over time.

      3) Do we want to make the ability a new semantic property?

This would allow it to be used by the query functions. I think it could be useful in the future but the current card lists would not be affected as R7 is the only type with the added abiliity.

      4) Do we want to keep the current changes regarding the template and edit form. For example, do we want to put the ability in a different spot?

I have done what I think is a reasonable arrangement but perhaps you guys have different ideas. Please let me know so we can finalize the new data arrangement. You can play with the preliminary arrangement here to figure out if you guys like it. Bascially, I arranged it so that the form displays the input only when the proper rarity is selected. Furthermore, the page displays the data only when the proper rarity is assigned. In other words, there should be no change for non-R7 card pages. Please let me know if this is not the case and I have missed something subtle about the old page format.

As a side note, I have been doing some more digging with regards to the markup language. I believe it may be possible to have some data auto-filled for either the weapon or character page if the other already exists.

If this is a possability, is that something we want to try?

        Loading editor
    • I have just done a similar thing for evolve pages. Go here to test it out. Then, let me know what you guys think.

      EDIT:

      I have also...

      1) Adjusted the weapon template to accommodate Epic Rare weapons

      2) Created place holders for the card lists for the new character and weapon rarities

      3) Unofficially created categories for the new character and weapon rarities

      I need to...

      1) Finalize the new rarity adjustments for characters, evolve characters, and weapons

      2) Fill in the place holder card list pages

      3) Explicitly create the new categories

      I need from you...

      1) Opinions on the new rarity adjustments

      2) The max level for R6 weapons

    • I noticed when you now click on an image on a character card page it goes directly to the image file and not to the file's page. Is this a change in the templates? I've been out a bit so I may not have heard about this. Is it done for safety purposes or something? I like the old style more.

        Loading editor
    • I was not aware of this change. When I have the time, I will look into it. However, my guess would be that this was a change made by Wikia as I do not recall changing anything regarding image display. An alternative is that one of the admins did it but I don't really know anything at the moment.

        Loading editor
    • I was thinking it might be a Wikia thing overall.

        Loading editor
    • With confirmation that R7 abilities are not limited to "Triple Attack", I have done the following:

      1. Create Property:Ability
      2. Edit the edit forms for regular and evolve characters to use dropdowns instead of text input
      3. Edit the templates for regular and evolve characters
        1. Add property value assignment
        2. Add auto-categorizing

I also took the liberty of adding some auto-categorizing to the weapon template since I noticed that some have been missing since template creation. Basically, "No Ability" and "Triple Attack" had not been assigned categories. I have fixed that.

I still need to explicitly create the new categories. Furthermore, there is a current issue with the wiki not recognizing the new property. I have been told by DinoKev in the past that this may take some time. So untill then, I will sit back and wait.

On a different note, I noticed that there's a new Ability for the Legendary cards per Sunstorm (3) and it's Critical Hit.  I have a screenshot of it if you need it.  It might be beneficial to have all abilities, specializations, and classes listed in all three drop-downs in case Mobage does it in the future.

    • 1) No, the pages are still there. Like I said, the links I provided are somehow in red but the pages still exist. If you type the url into your browser and disable the redirect, you will find them. http://transformers-legends.wikia.com/wiki/[Page Name]?redirect=no is what the url is where [Page Name] is the name of the page you are trying to access.

      2) I could just put them all in now. However,  I noticed that, in the past, some less experienced users have incorrectly choosen options from the dropdown lists. I thought I would keep the list as narow as possible to avoid potential mis-information. But if you feel strongly about it, I can add them all now.

      3) What do you think of the adjustments I made to accommodate the R7 properties?

I think you misunderstood what I was asking for. The templates and stuff DinoKev restricted still allows for registered users to make edits. the permissions you set only allows admins to make edits. Right now, I cannot edit the template even if it needs to be. The key is to prevent anonymous users from making edits. Looking back at his edits, it looks like he used "autoconfirmed" rather than "sysop" for both the edit and the move restrictions.

    • First change of the year!

I just finished making updates to the form and template for weapon cards. The sell prices, pre-battle, and in-battle abilities are "auto-filled" to the extent possible. Please take a look and tell me what you guys think; especially of the new layout for the form. All "auto-filled" values can be overridden via the text editor if needed. I use quotes because the form doesn't really auto-fill the information. Instead, the template sets the values when they are not specified.

Why do this? Users can make mistakes or enter incorrect information. As it turns out, pre-battle ability and sell price strictly follow a pattern based on rarity. The same is true for in-battle ability through R3. As such, there is no need to ask a user for that information and unnecessarily risk incorrect stats. The most common problem is sell price. The sell price varies depending on rarity, level, and whether or not there is an event in progress. As such, prices have been entered in a non-uniform manner. Setting the sell price automatically has already brought to my attention a few pages with other issues.

Please feel free to make suggestions.

        Loading editor
    • That sounds great! I usually leave things like price empty because I wasn't sure of the pattern. Thanks for cleaning things up.

    • Two things/requests:

      1. While revising the edit forms, I came across a way to allow users to upload pictures right on the form instead of having to go to Special:MultipleUpload. However, it does not appear to be working. According to MediaWiki.org, this problem may be caused by settings in LocalSettings.php (see here). I asked about this file in a thread in the Community Central forums (see here). It is clear that average users cannot even view this file. However, the answer I got does not deny the possibility that admins might be able to at least see (if not edit) these settings. If you guys think that it would be worthwhile to add this feature to the edit forms, I need an admin to help resolve this issue. At this point I don't have the ability to even check if LocalSettings.php is the issue. If it is, then an admin would need to send a request to the wikia team about changing the settings appropriately.
      2. Casualkirk and I have been discussing the possibility of revising the event template. One idea that came up was to "auto-fill" the links to the next and previous events. This could be done right now but in a very messy fashion. In order to do this in a more reader-friendly form, there is at least one extension that needs to be enabled. Based on what I have found, there are certain extensions that admins should be able to enable on their own. However, I do not know what you guys are able to access. At minimum, the extension "Variables" would be needed. Other extensions that may or may not be needed but could be helpful are "Arrays" and "ReplaceSet".

Both needs are dependent on whether or not you guys want to have the mentioned revisions made. To recap, the first feature would allow users to upload pictures directly on the form (and also allow us to set default names for the images). The second feature would remove the need to manually set the next and previous events for the event template.

      Edit:

Casualkirk also recently brought up the idea about featuring the current event on the homepage. I have looked into this and it turns out that DinoKev initially had a module to do this. It was a countdown module for the end of the event. However, it was removed. I suspect the reason is that it required manual updating every event. Making the proposed changes to the event templates might allow us to automate the updates. We could then put it back on the homepage and not have to worry about changing it each event. If we do revive this module, I might be able to re-work it to countdown to the start (for rare cases when we know of an event before it starts) as well as the end.

    • I'll get back to you on #1 Andrews.  #2 I'm fine with automating that it makes sense.  Let me know what i need to do to help you guys move forward, admittedly I haven't had the time to spend lately to mess around on this wikia.  Thanks bud

        Loading editor
    • Thanks. With regards to #2, there are three mediawiki extensions of interest. Their names are (in order of most-likely-needed):

      1. Variables
      2. Arrays
      3. ReplaceSet

According to what I have found, admins (sysop) should have features they can enable from some admin-only tools menu/palette. Supposedly, this contains a list of all extensions installed by default by wikia. If I were you, I would check there first. Otherwise, the extensions would need to be installed and further discussion would be needed.

    • I'm trying to help fill in some of the missing fields of some cards. my question is, is the sell price still doubled during an episode or not?

I was looking at the sixshot (1) card and the sell price was different than what the value is currently on the game during the episode. just trying to help and not mess anything up

        Loading editor
    • This was something I wasn't sure about myself for a while. I still don't know for sure about characters. However, I have confirmed that weapons are 2x sell price during events. Therefore, I would assume the same is true for character cards. FYI, the sell price should be at level 1 (non-upgraded). There are some pages that don't do this (for which corrected prices are desired) but that is the overall convention.

        Loading editor
    • ok, because some of the sell prices I put up were fully upgraded weapons and characters. I also want to learn how to create new pages with new cards but I don't have the time here at work to do so. everytime I sit down to run through it and see what I can accomplish, I get called to go do something. not having internet at home on my computer there hinders me. oh well i'll get the hang of it and ask questions when I am having trouble

    • To All:

I forgot to post this when the change was made but signature weapons/best matches are now "auto-filled". As with previous automation, the "auto-filled" values can be overridden if needed.

      @Bchimself28

Great! I will definitely be around to answer questions you might have so ask them whenever they come up. As a quick rundown of how to create new pages, there are a few methods.

      1. "Create new card page" button on the homepage
        1. Enter the name of the page
        2. Select the type of page
        3. Click button
      2. "Create or edit" button on the form pages
        1. Enter the name of the page
        2. Click button
      3. Generic page creation (from any wiki page)
        1. In the upper right of the page, Contribute > Add a Page
        2. Enter the name of the page
        3. Select "Blank page"
        4. Click "Add a Page" button
        5. Recommendation: Use classic text editor
        6. Type
          {{Template Name}}
where 'Template Name' is the name of the template
        7. Click "Publish" button
        8. Click "Edit with form" button
